Icy conditions forced airport staff to close Vienna International Airport today at least until midday and to restrict flights at Václav Havel Airport Prague, the two airports announced.

Bratislava Airport was also closed today due to weather conditions until midday the airport said in a statement posted on its Facebook account.

A thick layer of ice formed on Vienna’s runways and continued to accumulate despite clearing efforts, an airport spokesperson said. Flights were diverted to other airports, the spokesperson added.

Freezing rain also forced Prague Airport into “very limited operation,” according to a post on its X account. Delays are expected throughout the day and arrivals are being restricted, as staff work to clear ice from the main runway, the airport said.
