Cyprus Ambassador Presents Credentials to Chinese President in Beijing

Cyprus has a new ambassador in China after Koula Sophianou formally presented her credentials to Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

The ceremony took place at the Great Hall of the People and was attended by 18 ambassadors. The presentation of credentials officially marks the start of Ms Sophianou’s term as Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the People’s Republic of China, according to an official press release.

The timing is seen as significant. In 2026, Cyprus and China will mark 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The press release said the Republic of Cyprus remains committed to strengthening dialogue with China. It added that relations are based on mutual respect and international law.
