Cyprus Recorded The Second Lowest Inflation Rate In The EU

Annual inflation in Cyprus stood at 0.9% in February 2026, marking the second lowest rate among European Union Member States, according to data published on Wednesday by Eurostat.

According to the data, at the euro area level, inflation rose to 1.9% in February 2026, up from 1.7% in January, while a year earlier it stood at 2.3%. Across the European Union as a whole, annual inflation reached 2.1%, up from 2.0% the previous month and lower compared with 2.7% in February 2025.

Services main driver of inflation

The lowest inflation rates in the EU, aside from Cyprus, were recorded in Denmark (0.5%) and Czechia (1.0%). By contrast, the highest rates were observed in Romania (8.3%), Slovakia (4.0%) and Croatia (3.9%).

Compared with January 2026, annual inflation decreased in eleven Member States, remained unchanged in four, and increased in twelve.

According to Eurostat, in the euro area, services were the main driver of inflation, contributing 1.54 percentage points. This was followed by food, alcohol and tobacco, which contributed 0.48 percentage points, and non-energy industrial goods with 0.17 percentage points. By contrast, energy had a negative contribution, subtracting 0.30 percentage points from the overall index.
