French president urges joint action to restore navigation while warning against ambiguity in US approach.

French President Emmanuel Macron called on the United States and Iran to work in a coordinated manner to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, while criticising what he described as an “unclear” framework surrounding Washington’s current efforts.

Speaking on arrival at the European Political Community summit in Yerevan, Macron stressed the need for joint action to restore freedom of navigation along the critical maritime route.

He also voiced reservations about the new initiative launched by US President Donald Trump aimed at lifting the blockade, suggesting that the lack of clarity in its structure raises concerns.

Macron further underlined the importance of regional stability, describing respect for the ceasefire in Lebanon as “vital” following fresh Israeli strikes that reportedly killed one person in the country’s south.

“It is essential that the ceasefire in Lebanon is respected,” he said.

“This is the commitment made by the parties, and I say this in the interest of Lebanon’s sovereignty, its independence, and the protection of civilian populations,” the French president added.
