President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Saturday that the country’s interim governing council had approved the suspension of attacks against neighbouring countries, unless those states launch attacks against Iran.
“I apologise to the neighbouring countries that were attacked by Iran," Pezeshkian told state TV.
He also said Iran’s interim leadership council had approved that no attacks or missile strikes would be carried out against neighbouring countries unless an attack against Iran originated from those countries, Reuters reported.
The development comes after neighbouring countries were hit by Iranian fire. Airports across the Gulf were targetted, drones rained down on the UAE, the largest refinery in Saudi Arabia was set abalze and Qatar's LNG supply Ras Laffan, was struck.
Cyprus too was hit by a strike on March 2 by a Shahed drone. Though no actor took accountability for the attack at the RAF British Bases in Akrotiri, sources previously told Politis it is believed the drone was launched from southern Lebanon, implicating Iranian proxy Hezbollah behind the attack.
