Reports say Rafi-Nia synagogue was hit in early morning strikes on day 39 of the war

A synagogue in Tehran was “completely destroyed” in Israeli and US strikes early on Tuesday, according to Iranian media, as the conflict entered its 39th day.

Iranian outlets, including the Mehr news agency and the Shargh newspaper, reported that the Rafi-Nia synagogue was hit in the early morning attacks.

“According to preliminary information, the Rafi-Nia synagogue (…) was completely destroyed by strikes carried out this morning,” Shargh said.

Judaism is officially recognised in Iran, where a small Jewish community remains, although its numbers declined significantly after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
