A security alert sent to personnel at the British Bases in Akrotiri on Tuesday morning was withdrawn shortly afterwards, with officials confirming that no aerial threat was in effect.

According to journalistic information, at around 8:00am a message was circulated to staff of the British Bases warning of an imminent security risk. The message instructed personnel and their families to remain inside their homes and to take cover under furniture, away from windows.

In a second message sent a few minutes later, recipients were informed that an air threat was no longer expected. The British Bases in Cyprus were described as being in a state of reduced air raid warning, while continuing to monitor the situation.

The Bases also called on recipients to remain on standby for any further instructions that may be issued.
