Greek F-16 fighter jets took off again from the Andreas Papandreou Air Base in Paphos on Friday, marking the third consecutive day of military activity in Cyprus, according to informed sources.

The aircraft and their crews are continuing their scheduled training programme, which includes readiness drills, flight exercises and operational procedures.

Training and readiness exercises

Sources said the flights form part of routine military training carried out by Greek air forces deployed on the island. The exercises are designed to maintain operational readiness and ensure that crews remain prepared for a range of scenarios.

The training programme includes both technical flight testing and coordinated operational drills conducted in the airspace over Cyprus.

Air patrols over Cyprus

At the same time, patrol flights are being carried out in the airspace above and around Cyprus. The patrols aim to maintain a high level of operational preparedness while strengthening coordination between the participating forces.

Officials said the activities reflect ongoing defence cooperation between Greece and Cyprus.

Part of broader defence cooperation

The presence and continued activity of the fighter jets in the Cypriot sky highlight the importance placed on maintaining readiness and regular training for air crews.

Authorities say the exercises also contribute to a stronger sense of security and monitoring in the wider region, particularly during a period of heightened geopolitical tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean.
