Broadband is no longer a convenience. It is the connection that keeps homes running, businesses moving and families in touch. Customers expect it to simply work, every time. They are right to.
That expectation is behind Cablenet’s latest investment in its network.
Cablenet Communication Systems PLC (“Cablenet”), the second largest fixed network operator in Cyprus and a leading converged fixed and mobile operator, has selected Harmonic’s market-leading cOS™ virtualised broadband platform to modernise its broadband access network. The deployment strengthens Cablenet’s gigabit service capability, simplifies how the network is run and enhances the quality of experience customers enjoy every day.
The investment is part of Cablenet’s New Era of Connectivity strategy, which puts serious infrastructure behind the promise of a better customer experience.
“The real measure of network modernisation is the difference it makes for our customers,” said Panayiotis Kouloumbrides, Chief Core Networks Officer at Cablenet. “Harmonic’s cOS platform strengthens our DOCSIS 3.1+ network footprint, giving our customers fast, consistent gigabit broadband they can count on today, tomorrow and always, with a clear path to even higher speeds. We believe that broadband should simply work for our customers, every time.”
Faster Today, Ready for Tomorrow
Customers should not need to understand how a network is built to benefit from it. Put simply, the upgrade replaces traditional, single-purpose hardware with flexible software, and brings key network equipment closer to the homes and businesses it serves.
By running Harmonic’s virtualised cOS platform in a distributed access architecture (DAA) with low-power Oyster nodes, Cablenet can introduce significantly higher speeds across its network and scale its services efficiently as customers’ needs evolve. That means the gigabit speeds customers rely on today, with room to introduce new, faster speed tiers in the future.
Because cOS is software-based, it also gives Cablenet the flexibility to keep evolving its network as part of its longer-term multi-technology strategy.
A Simpler, More Efficient Network
A better network is not only a faster one. It is also a simpler one.
The cOS platform supports Cablenet’s plans to consolidate its data centres and simplify its hub-site infrastructure as part of a wider cost-optimisation initiative. By moving network functions from legacy hardware to Harmonic’s software-based platform, Cablenet can reduce space, power and wiring requirements, lower operating costs and run a more streamlined operation.
Smarter Insight, Faster Support
When something does go wrong, customers want it fixed quickly. With the move to the cOS platform, Cablenet now has access to Harmonic’s Central AI-driven network intelligence, giving its teams greater visibility of the network, more efficient monitoring and faster troubleshooting. The result is stronger, more reliable service assurance for every customer.
A Proven Technology Partner
Harmonic is the market share leader in cable broadband equipment, virtual CMTS and DAA, according to Dell’Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the telecommunications, networks and data centre IT industries. Its cOS platform powers next-generation broadband services through more than 48 million customer devices worldwide for leading operators in North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia.
“Operators need a practical path to enhance services today while preserving the flexibility to evolve their networks for tomorrow,” said Stefan Meier, Vice President of Sales, Europe, at Harmonic. “Our cOS platform provides Cablenet with a strong foundation to modernise its network, simplify operations and deliver a superior broadband experience. We’re pleased to support Cablenet’s forward-looking network strategy and its commitment to delivering faster, more consistent connectivity and a better quality of experience for its subscribers.”
Building for What Comes Next
This investment is one more step in Cablenet’s New Era of Connectivity, where infrastructure and customer experience move together. Cablenet will continue to invest in next-generation fixed and mobile infrastructure, so that the connection its customers depend on is fast, consistent and always there when they need it.
