Police in Nicosia have arrested two men, aged 34 and 25, following the discovery of illicit drugs, unlicensed firearms and explosives. The arrests were made on Saturday afternoon during a targeted patrol by the Emergency Response Unit (MMAD) in the Aglantzia district.
The operation commenced at approximately 17:20 when officers intercepted a vehicle displaying suspicious movement. A subsequent search of the vehicle, which was occupied by the two suspects, uncovered 20 grams of cocaine packaged in multiple containers, five grams of cannabis and a set of precision digital scales.
Discovery of weapons cache
Following the initial arrests for flagrant offences, investigators secured a warrant to search the residence of the 25-year-old suspect located in Nicosia.
During the search of the property, officers located and confiscated an assortment of weaponry and further contraband. The seized items included six pistols, six boxes containing a total of 299 rounds of live ammunition, an additional five grams of cannabis and 22 packages containing unidentified tablets.
The two suspects are scheduled to appear before the Nicosia District Court today for a remand hearing as investigations into the origin and intended destination of the items continue.
