An Iranian commercial vessel was struck early this morning off the coast of southern Iran, in the Strait of Hormuz, killing one person and injuring three others, Iranian state media reported, citing the governor of Qeshm County.
"A commercial ship was struck at around 05:00 (04:30 Cyprus time) this morning off Hengam Island and Qeshm Island. One person was killed and three were injured," said Governor Amir Teimouri, quoted by state television and the Tasnimnews agency, without specifying the origin of the strike.
Explosions had been reported overnight around Qeshm, the largest island in the Strait of Hormuz.
Joint investigation into drone sites near Iraq-Iran border
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi agreed to an Iranian request for a joint investigation into drone launch sites discovered near the Iraq-Iran border, the Prime Minister's office announced on Saturday.
The investigation will examine the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the launch sites near the border area, according to the same announcement, after they were used to carry out attacks on the East-West pipeline in Saudi Arabia.
