Democratic Rally (DISY) MP for Nicosia George Pamporidis has formally entered his party's internal race to select its candidate for the 2028 presidential elections. The former Minister of Health announced his decision in a social media post on Monday, inviting those who wish to support his candidacy to do so online through a dedicated link.
The announcement
"My friends, I have decided to seek the nomination of the Democratic Rally for the 2028 Presidential Elections. Let all the faithful come forth" Mr Pamporidis wrote.

Mr Pamporidis had previously left open the question of whether he would take part in the process, although he had already expressed publicly his intention to seek the nomination. With his latest intervention, he has now announced his decision and issued an open call for support.
The party's selection process
The announcement comes as DISY has already set in motion its internal procedures for choosing the person who will receive the nomination for the 2028 presidential elections.
The party's Political Bureau has set 26 October as the deadline for submitting candidacies, while the internal election is scheduled for 28 November.
Mr Pamporidis has been a DISY MP for the Nicosia constituency since June 2026 and previously served as Minister of Health.
