Request Made to Bicommunal Office for Handover of Father Over Abduction Case

The request was conveyed through the bicommunal Joint Contact Room as reports of the abduction of an infant by his father circulated in Turkish Cypriot media.

 

A request has been submitted to the Turkish Cypriot authorities to handover a Turkish national believed to have abducted his infant son from the child’s British mother in Limassol.

According to information obtained by CNA, the request was transmitted today, Thursday, through the bicommunal Joint Contact Room, which operates under the Technical Committee on Crime and Criminal Matters.

An arrest warrant has been issued by the police of the Republic of Cyprus against the father in connection with the abduction.

News of the abduction was reported on Wednesday by Turkish Cypriot online media, without any additional information being provided.

Arrest of 53-year-old

Meanwhile, on Wednesday evening, police arrested a 53-year-old man in connection with the case under investigation.

According to a police statement, the 53-year-old was arrested at around 10.10pm in Larnaca and is believed to be an accomplice of the 29-year-old father.

The suspect was taken to Limassol police headquarters, where he was remanded in custody.

Authorities are also examining a video posted by the 29-year-old on social media, in which he appears inside a car together with his child.
