The Cyprus Ports Authority is expected to present by 30 June a detailed roadmap for the implementation of what was agreed during the meeting held at the Presidential Palace on 15 May 2026, regarding the upgrade and development of Larnaca port, marina and surrounding land area, said Larnaca Mayor and Chair of the Committee Andreas Vyras.
According to a statement by Larnaca Municipality, a meeting of the Larnaca City and District Development Committee took place on Tuesday at the municipality’s Social Welfare and Employment Centre.
During the meeting, Mr Vyras briefed members on the discussions and agreements reached during the 15 May meeting at the Presidential Palace.
It is noted that, according to the Committee chair’s briefing, it was agreed that the overall implementation of the project will be undertaken by the Cyprus Ports Authority. Regarding the port, it was decided to upgrade it into a combined tourist and commercial cargo facility, which has been a long‑standing demand of the city.
Immediate priority is the upgrading of equipment for handling nuisance cargo, with the aim of protecting public health and quality of life.
Regarding the marina, it was decided to upgrade and expand it to accommodate around 200 vessels. Plans are also being promoted for the development of at least 50,000 square metres of land area for urban uses, in line with the city’s development planning and needs, while a key objective remains the unification of Larnaca’s coastal front.
Mr Vyras also noted that the Cyprus Ports Authority is expected to present the roadmap by 30 June 2026 to the Larnaca City and District Development Committee.
It was highlighted that the Cyprus Ports Authority has assured that the necessary financial resources are available for the implementation of the project. At the same time, it was stressed that the entire process will proceed in full coordination and cooperation with the city’s competent bodies.
For this purpose, a Technical Monitoring Committee has already been set up, comprising representatives of the state, the Cyprus Ports Authority and local stakeholders, tasked with clarifying key parameters for the promotion of the architectural competition for the preparation of a master plan, as well as organising and completing the relevant process.
