The four suspects arrested in connection with a terrorism case are expected to be referred directly to trial before the Assize Court, with police having gathered the necessary evidence to determine the role and level of involvement of each in the planned attack against targets of Israeli interests.
Today, the four are being brought before the Larnaca District Court for the purpose of referral to a direct trial before the Assize Court. After receiving information from the Greek authorities regarding the 37-year-old suspect arrested in Crete, police now have a clear picture of each suspect’s role.
A 32-year-old, a 38-year-old, a 54-year-old and a 57-year-old are being held in custody. Today’s court proceedings in Larnaca are expected – as in previous hearings – to be held behind closed doors, due to the sensitive information to be presented by police. It is considered certain that the prosecution will request that all four remain in custody until the start of the trial before the Assize Court.
Regarding the four suspects, a distinction is being made in their roles. The younger two, aged 32 and 38, are believed to be linked to Hamas and, together with the 37-year-old arrested in Crete, were allegedly planning terrorist attacks targeting Israeli interests in Cyprus. These two individuals are also believed to be connected to the materials used to manufacture high-powered explosives found during searches at properties in Governor’s Beach and Kamares in Larnaca.
Cross-checking of intelligence between Cypriot and Greek services revealed a link between the 38-year-old arrested in Cyprus and the 37-year-old arrested in Crete, with both reportedly having attended a Hamas training camp in Malaysia. According to the 38-year-old’s statement, this training included the construction and detonation of explosive devices using specific materials and is said to have taken place in August 2025.
Police investigations are expected to continue even after the case is filed before the Assize Court. Authorities are examining telecommunications data and seeking further details about potential targets and the timing of the planned attack. There has been ongoing communication between Cypriot and Greek authorities to determine whether additional individuals may have been involved.
At the same time, police are assessing claims made by the 37-year-old arrested in Greece regarding his relationship, particularly with the 38-year-old suspect.
Efforts are also ongoing to clarify the level of involvement of the 54-year-old and 57-year-old suspects, who have lived in Cyprus for many years, hold Cypriot citizenship and have no prior criminal record according to police files.
