Gambling Concerns Raised Before Limassol Shooting

A senior police officer reportedly met the 55-year-old officer days before the attempted femicide after receiving information about possible gambling-related problems. Investigators are examining whether financial pressures and personal disputes may help explain the motive behind the attack.

Information suggesting the 55-year-old police officer may have been suffering from a gambling addiction had prompted the intervention of a senior police officer just days before the attempted femicide in Limassol. According to information obtained by Politis, he summoned him to a meeting of an advisory nature in an effort to counsel him. Police investigations into the suspect's motives are continuing.

Police investigations into the attempted femicide committed on Tuesday morning in Zakaki, Limassol, are in full progress. Investigators are attempting to piece together the sequence of events that preceded the incident, both on the morning in question and during the preceding days.

An important issue in solving the case is whether there was premeditation on the part of the 55-year-old police officer or whether some last-minute incident occurred. A key investigative tool consists of statements that have already begun to be taken from people close to the couple, but also from within the police force itself, particularly from colleagues who were serving in the same post.

Although it remains extremely early and police are not confirming anything regarding motive, the direction of the investigation indicates that serious financial problems and financial disputes between the couple are under scrutiny. These issues are reportedly linked to gambling matters, which do not concern only the deceased officer, while there is also information suggesting that their relationship had not been in good shape at all in recent times for other reasons as well.

In addition, one of the key issues police are seeking to clarify concerns a large sum of money that the 46-year-old woman had recently earned through her work. Investigators are examining whether this may also have been the cause of an escalation in the dispute between them.

At the same time, conflicting information has emerged from the 55-year-old officer's working environment.

On the one hand, police officers who worked alongside him reportedly told investigators that he had not displayed any unusual or different behaviour. On the other hand, there are references to certain problems he had recently been facing as a result of a gambling addiction.

The latter issue appears to have prompted the intervention of a senior police officer.

According to information obtained by Politis, the officer in question called the 55-year-old in for a discussion only a few days ago in order to speak to him about information that had reached him. During that conversation, he attempted to advise and caution him, conveying the concerns that had come to his attention.

It should be noted that, according to our information, the meeting was primarily friendly and advisory in nature rather than an official service matter, while the facts known at that stage did not justify any further action on the part of the senior officer.

The 46-year-old's family

“My mother is alive and fighting the biggest battle of her life,” the 46-year-old woman's son-in-law said in a social media post, stressing that the family remains constantly by her side and believes she will make it through.

At the same time, he rejected reports circulating about financial problems or third parties, stressing that they do not correspond to reality.

As he noted, only the family knows what was happening inside the home, stating that his mother had been living for years with psychological abuse, fear and control.

He also called on the public to respect the family's privacy and allow the authorities to complete their investigations.

It should be noted, however, that police have repeatedly stated that no complaints or reports of domestic violence had been made to them.
