The Cyprus Ports Authority has presented its long-awaited master plan for the redevelopment of Larnaca port and marina, outlining projects worth €415 million that will be implemented over the next two decades.

A series of beautification, development and infrastructure projects at Larnaca port, marina and surrounding land areas are scheduled to take place between 2027 and 2031 under the Cyprus Ports Authority's (CPA) master plan.

The roadmap for the developments was officially presented yesterday to members of the Larnaca Development Committee. The CPA will oversee the project following the government's decision to entrust it with the redevelopment of the two strategic sites.

At the marina, beautification works on the existing land areas and the relocation of the boatyards to the northern end of the port are expected to begin in 2027 and be completed by 2028.

Road network upgrades and utility services are expected to be completed by 2029, while public spaces, green areas and new parking facilities are scheduled to begin in 2029 and be completed by 2031.

Large-scale developments on the marina's land areas, including retail facilities, hotels, a conference centre, a yacht club, restaurants and leisure venues, are expected to commence between 2029 and 2031 and be completed between 2031 and 2036.

The overall redevelopment and expansion of the marina is planned to take place between 2027 and 2036.

Maintenance of existing infrastructure is expected to be completed by 2028, new service buildings by 2031, while the extension of the lee breakwater, a new southern quay and new floating pontoons are expected to be completed by 2036.

Long-term plans for the port

The modernisation and expansion of the port itself will extend over a much longer period, with various projects expected to be completed between 2028 and 2045.

Maintenance of existing infrastructure and upgrades to port equipment are scheduled for 2027-2028, while improvements to utility networks and maintenance of existing buildings are planned for 2028-2029.

The construction of new administration and passenger buildings is scheduled for the period between 2031 and 2036.

Demolition of old warehouses and buildings is planned between 2029 and 2036.

Meanwhile, the new south-western and north-western quays, as well as a new harbour basin, are scheduled to be constructed between 2036 and 2041.

The cost

The redevelopment and development of the marina's land areas and adjacent plots is estimated to cost approximately €190 million.

The marina development itself is expected to require a further €20 million.

The modernisation and expansion of the port is projected to cost €205 million.

Overall, the entire project is currently estimated at €415 million, although the Cyprus Ports Authority has not ruled out the possibility that the cost of some projects could increase in the coming years.
