A 30-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were remanded in custody for five days on Sunday in connection with a case involving the importation and possession of suspected narcotics.
The arrests followed the seizure of cannabis and a large quantity of products believed to contain controlled substances.
According to police, officers from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) and the Customs Department intercepted two postal parcels and carried out a search of a shop in Limassol district as part of ongoing efforts to identify individuals importing drugs into Cyprus.
Authorities seized 685 grammes of cannabis and a large quantity of products, weighing a combined 6.248 kilogrammes, which are believed to contain narcotic substances.
The 30-year-old, who was identified as the recipient of the parcels and owner of the shop, was arrested together with a 23-year-old woman who was working at the premises when officers carried out the search.
Police said the seized products are believed to contain dangerous synthetic substances and may pose serious health risks if consumed.
The two parcels arrived at Larnaca airport from another European country on July 9 and were inspected by customs and YKAN officers.
Among the items found were:
- 20 containers labelled T9HC Flower containing 60g of cannabis
- 300 packets containing cannabis cigarettes, weighing 300g
- 325 packets containing one gramme of cannabis each, weighing a total of 325g
- 20 packs of CBD and cannabis tea, weighing 600g
- Five packs of cannabis coffee containing cannabis extract, weighing 300g
- 48 Premium T9HC vape devices containing a controlled substance
- 12 packs of Cannabis Gummies, weighing 2.4kg
- 12 packs of Cannabis Chewing Gum
- 10 packs of Cannabis Cookie products
A court warrant was subsequently issued for the arrest of the 30-year-old, who was detained by YKAN officers on Saturday.
During a search of his Limassol shop, police discovered additional products suspected of containing cannabis or THC, including cannabis gummies, THC chocolates, brownies, cannabis cookies, vape products, cannabis resin and a precision scale bearing traces of dried plant material.
The Limassol District Court approved a police request to remand the pair in custody for five days while investigators examine allegations of importing, possessing and supplying narcotics, as well as money laundering.
