Two Greek Cypriots, a man and a woman, will remain in custody for two more days in the north after a court accepted a request by ‘police’ investigating alleged unlawful entry into a first-degree military prohibited zone.
According to reports in the Turkish Cypriot press, the pair are said to have entered the north on 12 July 2026 at around 13:02 via the Limnitis crossing point.
During proceedings, ‘police officer’ Orçun Karantagi claimed the two crossed from the government-controlled areas in a private vehicle without stopping at the control booth or following the required entry procedures.
It is further alleged that the couple were located later the same day when they attempted to return to the government-controlled areas via the Zodia crossing point, where they were arrested.
‘Police’ said the investigation is ongoing, with security camera footage to be examined and the statements given by the two suspects to be further scrutinised.
No official comment has been issued by the Republic of Cyprus authorities at this stage.
