Two people wanted by the Belgian and Dutch authorities in connection with a fraud investigation have been located and arrested in Cyprus during a joint operation involving the Cyprus Police and Europol.

Dozens of officers

The operation forms part of an investigation into alleged financial and online fraud offences committed between 2023 and 2025, which are being led by authorities in Belgium and the Netherlands. The coordinated operation was carried out in Cyprus on 7 July 2026 with the support of Europol.

More than 30 officers from the Cyprus police took part in the operation, alongside representatives from Europol and law enforcement authorities from Belgium and the Netherlands. Searches were carried out at homes, offices and other premises, where investigators seized a large quantity of evidence.

Extradition

During the operation, two suspects, aged 34 and 45, were arrested under European Arrest Warrants.

The pair were brought before Limassol District Court, where extradition proceedings to Belgium have begun.

The Cyprus Police said the operation involved its Office for the Execution of European Investigation Orders and Mutual Legal Assistance Requests, the Crime Combating Department, the Electronic Data Forensics Laboratory, the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Limassol Crime Prevention Unit, as well as members of Cyprus' national Europol unit.

Police also confirmed that a third suspect was arrested in Cyprus during separate searches carried out by the Sovereign Base Areas Police within the British Bases.
