A 21-year-old foreign national died after entering the sea with a friend near the pier at Limassol Old Port on Monday. Authorities have yet to establish the precise cause of death.
According to initial information, the young man was swimming alongside the pier shortly after midday on 24 August when he began calling for help.
His friend attempted to help him out of the water but was unable to do so before the 21-year-old lost consciousness.
Emergency response
Police and an ambulance were called to the scene, where his death was confirmed.
The exact cause of death will be determined through a post-mortem examination, which will be scheduled at a later stage.
