The Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection has issued warnings and recommendations after examining 10 of the 24 complaints submitted during the May 2026 parliamentary elections. According to an announcement by the office, the remaining 14 complaints were found to be unfounded or could not be investigated because the necessary information was not provided, while some were withdrawn by the complainants. The office noted that the number of complaints linked to the elections of 24 May 2026 was limited compared with previous elections.
What the complaints concerned
The complaints concerned phone calls and SMS messages with political content or promoting candidacies. Of the 24 complaints, 21 were against candidates of political parties and three against political parties. They related specifically to unsolicited phone calls, SMS messages and emails, while one complaint concerned a name being called out during the voting process. Three complaints were fully investigated and resulted in the administrative sanction of a warning, while recommendations were issued in seven other cases that were also fully investigated.
