AKEL MP and Head of its Justice Sector Andreas Pasiourtides calls on the Justice Ministry and Police to take protective measures and bring those responsible to justice.

AKEL MP Andreas Pasiourtides has called for all aspects of the assault of a food delivery worker in Limassol to be fully investigated and for those responsible to be brought to justice.

In a written statement, Pasiourtides said that society had witnessed, through images and videos on social media, yet another violent assault on a food delivery worker.

He said the incident came on top of multiple incidents that were increasing dangerously and included murderous attacks, assaults and thefts targeting foreign food delivery workers by people with fascist and racist mindsets.

Culture of racism

The AKEL MP argued that impunity in such incidents contributed to cultivating and maintaining a culture of racism and xenophobia at the expense of workers.

AKEL called on the competent Justice Ministry and the Police to take all necessary measures to protect all citizens and workers in the Republic of Cyprus, stressing that this was the responsibility of the state.

It also called on them to fully investigate all aspects of the case so that those responsible could be brought before justice.
