Plans for the reconstruction of Vrysoudion and Pinia roads are expected to be completed within 18 months, ending years of poor road conditions in one of the area's fastest-growing tourism zones.

The long-awaited redevelopment of Vrysoudion and Pinia roads in the tourist area of Paralimni is moving into the implementation phase, with works planned along a combined length of approximately four kilometres.

The project is considered a significant infrastructure upgrade as both roads are currently in very poor condition and no longer reflect the rapid tourism development that has taken place in the surrounding area in recent years.

Last Monday (19 October), the Paralimni-Deryneia Municipality signed a contract with ASD Hyperstatic Engineering Design for the preparation of construction plans for the reconstruction of the two roads.

The urban development project is expected to improve two strategically important roads that, among other functions, connect the fishing shelters of Agia Triada and Agios Nikolaos (near the Golden Coast Hotel). The roads will also serve visitors and users of the Paralimni Marina, which is currently under construction in the same area.

According to a municipal announcement, the project aims to improve road safety and accessibility through road upgrades and the construction of pavements, while also supporting further tourism growth across the wider area.

‘In a terrible condition’

Mayor George Nicolettos told Politis that despite serving a large number of holiday homes, hotels and businesses, the roads have been in an unacceptable condition for many years.

As he noted, some sections currently lack pavements altogether, creating serious risks for pedestrians.

Nicolettos said the construction plans are expected to be completed within 18 months and will include:

  • Upgrading the road surface.
  • Construction of pavements along the entire length of both roads.
  • Cycle lanes where feasible.
  • Installation of modern street lighting.
  • Undergrounding of utility services.

Fast-growing area

“Our goal is that once the construction plans are completed, the project will be fully mature so that a tender for the construction works can be launched immediately,” Nicolettos said.

“This is a project we want to begin as soon as possible because the surrounding area is experiencing rapid development and already serves thousands of holidaymakers, while the ambitious Paralimni Marina project will soon be completed.

“The promotion of this road project forms part of our ongoing effort to upgrade infrastructure and improve the quality of life of residents and visitors to our municipality.”
