The number of registered unemployed persons in Cyprus increased on an annual basis but declined slightly compared with the previous month, according to figures released on Wednesday by the Statistical Service.
Based on records held by the district labour offices, the total number of registered unemployed at the end of July 2026 stood at 11,728.
After seasonal adjustment, which reflects the underlying trend in unemployment, the figure fell to 10,504, compared with 10,564 in June.
Year-on-year increase
Compared with July 2025, the seasonally adjusted number of registered unemployed increased by 640 persons, or 5.8%.
The increase was attributed mainly to higher unemployment in:
- Administrative and support service activities.
- Accommodation and food service activities.
- Public administration.
- Education.
Sectors with the most unemployed
Based on the actual figures for July 2026, the largest numbers of unemployed were recorded in:
- Public Administration and Defence; Compulsory Social Security – 3,193
- Education – 1,731
- Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles – 1,355
A further 847 unemployed persons were recorded in Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities.
Hotels and restaurants
Unemployment in the accommodation and food services sector declined during the month, with the number of unemployed falling to 889 in July from 934 in June.
