The Medical University of Sofia is expanding its English-language offer for international students with three new full-time programmes, the university announced on Tuesday.

The new courses include two bachelor’s programmes, in Nursing and Kinesitherapy, and a master’s programme in Clinical Trial Management. They will be added to the university’s established English-language programmes in Medicine, Dental Medicine and Pharmacy.

Applications for all programmes will open on July 27, 2026.

The new programmes will be offered by the Faculty of Public Health. Clinical Trial Management will run for two years, while Nursing and Kinesitherapy will each last four years. The existing Medicine and Dental Medicine programmes last six years, while Pharmacy is a five-year course.

Based in the Bulgarian capital, the Medical University of Sofia is the country’s oldest higher medical education institution. It was founded in 1917 and has been involved in medical and public health research for more than a century.

According to BTA, the university leads in all five professional fields in which it provides training under Bulgaria’s higher education ranking system: Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Health Care and Public Health.

The university is also the highest-ranked Bulgarian institution in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025 and the top university in Bulgaria in the US News & World Report Best Global Universities ranking for 2025-2026.

Degrees awarded by the university are recognised across the EU, offering graduates wider professional opportunities in an international environment, BTA reported.

The university says its teaching staff includes internationally recognised researchers and clinicians, with five faculty members listed among the world’s top 2% most-cited scientists in Stanford University’s ranking.

The Medical University of Sofia follows the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System and international standards in medical education. It also maintains partnerships with more than 180 universities through Erasmus+, as well as dozens of institutions worldwide.

Practical training takes place in 12 university hospitals and clinical bases, while the university hosts students from more than 70 countries.
