Enhanced coordination with the UN and on-site inspections aim to boost fire readiness in the Buffer Zone ahead of wildfire season.

Cypriot authorities are placing relevant services on full operational alert ahead of the wildfire season, while strengthening cooperation with the United Nations to improve response to potential fires within the Buffer Zone.

In a statement, the Department of Forests said two key meetings were held with UN representatives to review existing procedures and enhance coordination in case of fires in the sensitive area.

At the same time, on-site visits and inspections were carried out at entry points to the Buffer Zone to assess operational readiness and ensure rapid access in case of emergencies.

Officials from the Department of Forests and the Fire Service took part in both the meetings and inspections as part of ongoing coordination between the competent authorities.
