Sunny Start to the Weekend, with Rain and Thunderstorms Expected Later

The weekend will begin with mostly clear skies across Cyprus, but increasing cloud cover on Sunday and Monday is expected to bring isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in mountainous and inland areas.

Seasonal low pressure is affecting the region.

Today, the weather will be mostly clear, although patches of low cloud and light mist may be observed locally during the early part of the day.

Winds will initially be southwesterly to northwesterly, and locally variable, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort. Later, in windward coastal areas, winds will become strong and at times very strong, reaching 5 to 6 Beaufort.

The sea will become slightly rough and, at times in windward areas, rough.

Temperatures will rise to 37°C inland, around 32°C on the southern and eastern coasts, 34°C on the northern coast, and 30°C on the western coast and in the higher mountains.

Tonight

The weather will remain mostly clear, although temporarily increased low cloud is expected along the western coast.

Later tonight and during the early morning hours, increased low cloud and light mist or fog are expected to form locally, mainly over the eastern half of the island.

Winds will be mainly southwesterly to northwesterly, and locally variable, generally light at 3 Beaufort and initially locally moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort.

The sea will be calm to slightly rough.

Temperatures will fall to 21°C inland, around 22°C along the coast and 18°C in the higher mountains.

Outlook for the Weekend

On Saturday, the weather will remain mostly clear, although locally increased cloud is expected over mountainous areas during the afternoon.

On Sunday and Monday, cloud cover will gradually increase and isolated showers or thunderstorms are expected after midday, mainly over mountainous and inland regions.

Temperatures

Temperatures on Saturday are not expected to change significantly and will remain close to seasonal averages.

By Monday, temperatures are expected to gradually decline slightly.
