A significant rise in temperature is expected from Tuesday, with the mercury climbing past 40 degrees Celsius and staying at that level through Thursday, Meteorological Department officer Iasonas Christodoulou said.
The heat ahead
Christodoulou said the weather in the coming days would be mostly clear, with temperatures set to rise, particularly from Tuesday onward. On Monday, he said, inland temperatures would hover around 38 degrees Celsius, before the mercury climbs past 40 degrees from Tuesday. "We will remain above 40 degrees right through to Thursday," he said, estimating that temperatures could reach 41 to 42 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday. He noted that average climatological values for inland areas are around 38 degrees. "Tomorrow we will be close to the average climatological values, while from Tuesday through Thursday temperatures will definitely be above them," he concluded.
An unusually wet July
According to Meteorological Department figures, rainfall so far this July stands at 5.6 millimetres, a figure that corresponds to 215% of the month's normal rainfall of 2.6 millimetres, based on the 1961-1990 average. Total rainfall since 1 October 2025 stands at 578.3 millimetres, corresponding to 117% of the normal rainfall for the same period, which, based on the 1961-1990 average, is calculated at 495.6 millimetres.
