Cyprus is set for another spell of unsettled weather, with low pressure continuing to affect the island through Friday, bringing periods of rain, isolated thunderstorms and airborne dust before conditions improve over the weekend.
Storms and dust in the forecast
Thursday will be partly cloudy, with light dust possible in the atmosphere.
Cloud build-up is expected during the afternoon, leading to isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly over inland areas and the mountains. Hail is also possible in areas affected by thunderstorms.
Temperatures are forecast to reach:
- 34°C inland
- 30°C on the west coast
- Around 32°C on other coastal areas
- 26°C in the higher mountains
Deteriorating conditions overnight
Weather conditions are expected to worsen during the evening and overnight hours.
Local showers and isolated thunderstorms will initially affect western and northern areas before spreading to other parts of the island. Some storms may be accompanied by hail, while locally heavy rainfall cannot be ruled out.
Overnight temperatures will fall to:
- Around 18°C inland and along the coasts
- Around 14°C in the higher mountains
Friday expected to be the most unsettled day
Friday's weather is forecast to be mostly cloudy, with periodic rain and isolated thunderstorms across the island.
Forecasters warn that some of the weather phenomena could be locally intense, although conditions are expected to improve significantly from late afternoon onwards.
Temperatures will drop further, falling below seasonal averages for this time of year.
Better weather for the weekend
The weather is expected to improve on Saturday and Sunday, with conditions becoming generally sunny.
However, increased cloud cover may develop during the afternoons, bringing a chance of isolated showers or thunderstorms, mainly over mountainous areas.
Temperatures to rise again
After Friday's cooler conditions, temperatures are expected to gradually increase over the weekend, returning closer to normal seasonal levels as the low-pressure system moves away.
