A new chapter in diagnostic care at the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre is opened with the operation of a Cyclotron Unit. According to an announcement by the Centre, this is a cutting edge facility directly linked to the new PET CT service, which is now offered there.
As stated, the Cyclotron Unit is an important addition to the infrastructure of the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre, as it supports the operation of the PET CT system through the production of the required radiopharmaceutical. PET CT is an advanced imaging examination that combines metabolic imaging, through Positron Emission Tomography, with the anatomical precision of Computed Tomography, providing the medical team with a more comprehensive picture for evaluating each case.
The ability to operate the service within the Centre strengthens immediacy, speed and quality of diagnostic care, for the benefit of patients and the medical community, the announcement states.
On 2 June, a blessing ceremony was held for the new building that houses the Cyclotron Unit.
The ceremony was attended by the Chairman and members of the Board of Trustees of the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre, the Director General and members of the Centre’s medical team and representatives of patient associations.
As stated, speaking during the event, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre, Christos M. Triantafyllides, said that the launch of the new PET CT Service marks an important milestone in the continuous upgrading of the Centre and in the effort to ensure that patients in Cyprus have access to modern diagnostic and care services.
He also underlined that “we remain committed to the vision and the principles on which the Centre was founded. We continue, with the same responsibility and dedication, to invest in scientific excellence, innovation and the continuous upgrading of our services, so that every patient who walks through the doors of the Oncology Centre feels that they have the best possible care, support and hope by their side. With this philosophy, we continue to plan the future of the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre, for the benefit of patients and society”.
As stated, the creation of the building housing the Cyclotron Unit, as well as the purchase of the PET CT system, were made possible thanks to the significant contribution of a donor who chose to remain anonymous. As revealed by Mr Triantafyllides, as part of the donation, one of the key conditions set was that the co founders of the Centre, the Bank of Cyprus and the Republic of Cyprus, allocate the necessary resources for the construction of the new operating theatres planned at the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre.
