Hourly paid government and state health staff will stage a protest march in Nicosia on Wednesday, heading from the Finance Ministry to the Presidential Palace, with traffic disruptions expected.
Police said the demonstration will begin at 10am outside the Ministry of Finance, with participants marching through central areas towards the Presidential Palace. Temporary road closures and congestion are expected around the ministry, Byron Avenue and the wider presidential compound area.
Authorities urged drivers to follow police instructions and use alternative routes where possible, warning of delays during the protest.
The mobilisation coincides with a 24-hour strike by hourly paid government employees, including staff of the State Health Services Organisation (OKYpY).
OKYpY said it has implemented contingency measures to ensure the continued provision of healthcare services at public hospitals and health centres. Facilities will operate with minimum staffing levels, prioritising patient safety and the handling of emergency cases.
Emergency departments will function as normal, while inpatient care will continue without disruption, the organisation said. However, some scheduled appointments, examinations, non-urgent services and planned surgeries may face delays or rescheduling.
Affected patients will be informed directly, OKYpY added, noting that efforts are being made to minimise inconvenience.
Police also reminded organisers of their obligation to cooperate with authorities to ensure a peaceful protest, adding they retain the right to impose restrictions or disperse the gathering if required under the law.
