The State Health Services Organisation (OKYPY) says both a police investigation and an internal inquiry are under way following a complaint concerning the treatment of a four-year-old child.
In a statement issued amid ongoing public discussion of the case in the media and on social media, OKYPY said police have already obtained statements from individuals involved, including members of staff.
Investigations ongoing
According to the organisation, the police inquiry remains active and statements have already been collected as part of the investigation.
At the same time, an internal investigation is continuing in accordance with the organisation's procedures and regulations.
Reference to due process
OKYPY said it is important that the fundamental principles of the rule of law are respected during the investigation process, including the presumption of innocence, until all procedures have been completed.
The organisation added that it is cooperating fully with the competent authorities and is providing any assistance required for the conduct of an independent investigation.
Commitment to transparency
OKYPY said that, as a public law organisation operating accredited services and quality assurance procedures, it applies mechanisms intended to ensure the prompt, impartial and objective examination of any allegation or complaint.
The organisation also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and the protection of the rights of both patients and healthcare professionals.
It added that every complaint is examined with the required seriousness, free from prejudice and without interference.
