"The infant continues to be treated with mechanical support in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Makarios Hospital and is receiving all indicated treatment. According to the treating physicians, the infant's condition remains critical."
Legionella detected in water system
Following the identification of the case, the Health Ministry launched an investigation into the water supply system of the medical facility where the infant was born.
Preliminary tests detected the presence of Legionella pneumophila bacteria at points within the facility's water network.
As a precautionary measure, authorities decided to temporarily suspend the operation of the clinic.
Newborns transferred
All newborns who had been housed at the facility were transferred to other healthcare units.
Additional environmental testing and inspections have also been initiated as part of the investigation.
No other linked cases identified
According to previous information provided by the Health Ministry, no other suspected or confirmed cases linked to the facility have been identified so far.
Health authorities continue to monitor the situation while investigations into the source and extent of the contamination remain ongoing.
