A number of seats changed hands, with some candidates losing narrowly, others paying the price for party losses, and some seeing their political moves fail to deliver.
One of the clearest cases is Rita Superman in Kyrenia. The outgoing DISY MP lost her seat by just 239 preference votes, receiving 1,696 votes compared to 1,935 for Dimos Georgiades.
A tight internal contest was also seen in DIKO Famagusta, where Christos Senekis lost his seat despite securing 2,633 votes, falling short of Zacharias Koulias, who received 2,821. In the same district, Michalis Giakoumis also failed to return to parliament, receiving 1,625 votes after running this time with DIKO.
Political moves that failed
Giakoumis’s case carries a broader political reading, as his move from DIPA to DIKO did not translate into electoral success. Despite joining a larger party, he failed to secure a position within the Famagusta ticket.
Alexandra Attalidou also remained outside parliament, securing 2,704 votes in Nicosia with Volt. In her case, the issue was not only her personal result, but the party’s failure to enter parliament.
A similar outcome affected DIPA, which remained outside the new House. As a result, Alekos Tryfonides, despite also receiving 2,704 votes in Nicosia, was not re-elected, while Giorgos Penintaex, with 1,068 votes, also stayed out.
For the same reason, Greens leader Stavros Papadouris, who secured 1,107 votes, did not enter parliament as the party failed to reach the electoral threshold. The same applied to Andreas Themistocleous, who received 784 votes, with his newly formed party also failing to win a seat.
A special case
Marios Mavridis’s case stands apart. He did not run as part of a party list but sought election as the Maronite representative. However, he was not successful, with the seat going to Petros Nakouzis.
