Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou has categorically denied reports that he is in contact with AKEL over a possible candidacy in the 2028 presidential elections, making clear that he has no interest in entering politics or seeking any office. The founder and owner of the easy family of brands and founder and chairman of the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation responded in a written statement following the reports. “In light of reports referring to a possible candidacy of mine in the 2028 presidential elections, I wish to clarify that the information in question does not reflect reality,” Haji-Ioannou said.
He added that he is not in discussions or contact with the Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL) or any other political party on the matter and has no interest in running for or seeking any political office. “My activity in Cyprus, through the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, remains firmly committed to philanthropic and social work,” he said. “Its focus includes, among other things, initiatives to support youth entrepreneurship, to strengthen cooperation between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots through bicommunal entrepreneurship, the ‘Food from the Heart’ programme, which offers practical support to people in need, as well as financial support for non-profit organisations and associations.”
