Six classifications, five podiums, one victory and no finish lower than fourth. Andreas Iacovou delivered a weekend of remarkable consistency at the Slovakia Ring, capped by a result carrying significance beyond his own career.
His second-place finish in the STK600 category of the Alpe Adria International Motorcycle Championship was, according to his team’s records, the first podium achieved by a Cypriot rider in the category.
A breakthrough on the European stage
The landmark result arrived on Sunday, when Iacovou secured three podium finishes across the Alpe Adria International Motorcycle Championship and the BMU European Road Racing Championship.
He finished second in the BMU STK600 category and third in the BMU SSP600 before taking second place in the Alpe Adria STK600 classification.
That final result represented the high point of an already exceptional weekend for the FxCareer.eu Racing Team rider.
Twenty-four hours earlier, Iacovou had celebrated his first career victory in the BMU STK600 category. He also claimed third place in the BMU SSP600 and finished fourth in the Alpe Adria STK600 classification.
Across the two days of competition on 5 and 6 September, every one of his recorded results placed him inside the top four.
A journey that began in 2019
The achievement in Slovakia takes on greater meaning when viewed against the relatively short span of Iacovou’s racing career.
The Limassol rider first entered the sport in December 2019. In 2020, he made his debut in the Superstock 600cc category of the Pancyprian Motorcycle Championship and secured his first podium with a third-place finish.
Three years later, having finished as runner-up in the Cypriot championship, he moved beyond domestic competition to focus on the 600cc category of the Greek Superbike Championship at the Serres circuit.
His path has since taken him onto international grids, competing against riders with considerably greater access to established racing infrastructure and circuits.
The Slovakia Ring weekend provided the clearest indication yet of how far that journey has taken him.
Proof that he can challenge at the front
For Iacovou, the Alpe Adria podium was not only a milestone for Cyprus. It was also the fulfilment of a target he had been pursuing for some time.
“The second-place finish in Alpe Adria was a personal goal that I had been chasing for a long time,” he said.
“The most important thing is that we proved we can be competitive against the frontrunners. The work continues, and we now know that we can challenge for places at the top.”
