The final 22 people due to leave the cruise ship MV Hondius will depart on a single flight to the Netherlands before 21:00 Cyprus time, after an initially planned flight to Australia was cancelled, Spain’s Health Minister announced.
Speaking at a press conference, Health Minister Mónica García said there were 54 people on board the vessel. Of those, 22 would disembark, while 32 crew members would remain on the ship, which is expected to depart for the Netherlands.
The flight to Australia was ultimately cancelled because the aircraft was expected to arrive in the Canary Islands too late, García said.
