Mohammed Ouda had recently taken over leadership of the Al‑Qassam Brigades, following the death of his predecessor in an Israeli raid in May.

An Israeli security official said there are strong indications that Mohammed Ouda, the new head of Hamas’s military wing in Gaza, is dead, just hours after an Israeli strike on a building in Gaza City.

Netanyahu’s statement on Mohammed Ouda

According to television network Keshet 12, an Israeli security official assessed that Mohammed Ouda was likely killed in the attack carried out by the Israeli army in Gaza City.

Shortly afterwards, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed in a post on platform X that the Israeli army had targeted Ouda.

“We struck Mohammed Ouda in Gaza — the leader of Hamas’s military wing and one of the architects of the massacre of 7 October 2023. We will reach them all,” Netanyahu said, without providing further details about the operation or the condition of the Hamas figure.

Successor to Izz al‑Din al‑Haddad

Mohammed Ouda had taken over leadership of the Al‑Qassam Brigades after the death of Izz al‑Din al‑Haddad, who was killed in an Israeli air strike on 15 May.

The Israeli leadership considers him among the key figures involved in planning Hamas’s attack on 7 October 2023.

Gaza’s Civil Defence service said that three people were killed in the Israeli strike in the Rimal neighbourhood of Gaza City.

Among the victims was a woman, according to the same information.

Escalation in southern Lebanon

At the same time, tensions continue on Israel’s northern border, with the Lebanese government announcing that yesterday’s Israeli bombardments in southern Lebanon cost the lives of 31 people.

According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, at least four children and three women are among the dead, while another 40 people were injured.

Fourteen people were killed in the Burj al‑Shamali area, near Tyre.

The Israeli government has made clear that it is intensifying its operations against the pro‑Iranian Hezbollah, despite the ceasefire that has been in place in theory since mid‑April.
