British police have launched an investigation after a passenger died following an incident on a flight from Larnaca to Manchester.
Greater Manchester Police said officers were called to Manchester Airport at around 2.25am on Monday after reports of an assault on flight LS966, which had travelled from Cyprus. The force said a disturbance had taken place during the flight, involving a male passenger.
According to The Guardian, police are examining reports that the man had been aggressive and disruptive towards passengers and crew members before the aircraft landed. The pilot had requested a priority landing.
Officers who boarded the plane found the man seriously unwell. Police said he had been restrained when they arrived, while The Guardian reported that passengers had been involved in restraining him before landing.
The man was given CPR on board before being removed from the aircraft and taken to hospital, where he later died.
Greater Manchester Police has referred the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct because the death followed contact with officers. The watchdog will assess whether the case meets the threshold for an independent investigation.
The force is also appealing for witnesses and for any footage from passengers who were on board the Larnaca to Manchester flight on 21 June.
The exact circumstances leading to the man’s death remain under investigation
