An Istanbul criminal court has initiated proceedings for an international arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in connection with the Sumud Flotilla case.
Turkish media reported that prosecutors have brought charges against Netanyahu and other defendants for alleged offences including crimes against humanity, genocide, damage to property, bodily harm, torture, obstruction of transport routes and unlawful deprivation of liberty.
The 11th High Criminal Court of Istanbul ruled that steps should be taken to seek an international arrest warrant in order to ensure Netanyahu's appearance before the court.
The case remains ongoing.
Interpol approval not automatic
The court's decision does not automatically result in the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice.
Any request must first undergo a separate review process and receive approval from Interpol before a red notice can be issued internationally.
The move marks the latest legal development in Turkey's efforts to pursue accountability over actions linked to the Sumud Flotilla case.
