More than 400 people have been evacuated by boat to the port of Arcachon after authorities ordered the evacuation of parts of the Cap Ferret peninsula in south-west France, where a major wildfire continues to burn.
According to local authorities, buses have been deployed at four piers to assist evacuees after residents were instructed to leave the area.
The fire, believed to have started accidentally, has been burning since Wednesday in forest areas north of the Arcachon Bay and has already destroyed approximately 87,000 stremmata (8,700 hectares) of woodland.
No civilian injuries have been reported so far. One firefighter has been injured while battling the blaze.
Cap Ferret is a popular holiday destination, and emergency services remain on alert as efforts continue to contain the fire.
