The Israeli military said it launched strikes on southern Lebanon on Wednesday, in what it described as a response to a ceasefire violation by the Iran-aligned Hezbollah, as talks between Israel and the Lebanese government continued in Rome.
"In response to a blatant violation of the ceasefire by the terrorist organisation Hezbollah, the Israeli military has launched targeted strikes on southern Lebanon," the military said in a statement.
Shortly beforehand, the military issued an evacuation order for a village in southern Lebanon ahead of the strikes, the first such order in a month. "For your safety, you must evacuate your homes immediately," the Israeli military's Arabic-language spokeswoman, Avichay Adraee, said on X, addressing residents of the Al Mansouri community.
The evacuation order came as Lebanon and Israel held talks in Rome, under US auspices, on the deployment of the Lebanese army in "pilot zones" from which Israeli forces would withdraw, on condition that Hezbollah disarms.
