Another religious movement leader has come under scrutiny from Turkish authorities following a major police operation targeting the Furkan Foundation (Furkan Vakfı) in Adana.
The foundation's founder and leader, Alparslan Kuytul, was detained along with his wife, Semra Kuytul, and several other individuals as part of an investigation into what authorities describe as a series of serious criminal offences.
The operation was carried out simultaneously at 49 locations across six provinces, while court-appointed trustees were assigned to five companies.
Raid on his home in Adana
Teams from the Counter-Terrorism Branch of Adana Police conducted a search early in the morning at Kuytul's home in the Reşatbey neighbourhood of Seyhan.
A large police presence was deployed to the area, including riot-control and special operations units.
Supporters of Kuytul gathered outside the residence and chanted slogans, leading to a brief confrontation with police.
After the search was completed, Alparslan Kuytul, his wife and other suspects were taken into custody.
Investigation targets 32 suspects
Turkish Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced that judicial proceedings had been launched against 32 suspects.
According to Turkish authorities, the investigation concerns alleged offences including:
- Establishing and directing a criminal organisation
- Membership in a criminal organisation
- Money laundering
- Aggravated fraud
- Forgery of official documents
- Violations of tax legislation
Authorities said the case file includes statements from complainants and witnesses, financial analyses, banking records and digital evidence.
Access blocked to 349 accounts
At the same time, authorities ordered the blocking of access to 349 social media accounts.
According to the Justice Minister's statement, the accounts were allegedly engaged in activities supporting the organisation under investigation.
Court-appointed administrators were also assigned to five companies as part of the operation.
Government: "No religious group is being targeted"
Gürlek was quick to stress that the investigation is not directed against any religious group, faith community or lawful activity.
He said the focus is on specific allegations of criminal conduct, coercion against individuals and financial evidence included in the case file.
The investigation is being conducted by the Adana Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in cooperation with police and relevant cyber-security authorities.
