The deaths of five people discovered at a home in a rural area of Oregon are being investigated as a series of intentional homicides, local law enforcement authorities said.
The victims were found on Saturday in a rural community near Forest Grove, about 30 miles (48km) west of Portland, after officers responded to a report of a vehicle fire.
Investigation launched after vehicle fire report
According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, deputies attended the property following the fire report and discovered the five deceased individuals inside the home.
Several pets were also found dead at the scene.
Authorities said no arrests had initially been made and investigators did not believe the deaths were random.
Sheriff describes scene as highly complex
Washington County Sheriff Caprice Massey described the investigation as one of the most challenging she has encountered.
"In the 22 years I've been here, I've never investigated or seen a crime scene this complex," she said.
Investigators have not publicly disclosed the identities of the five victims.
Suspect later identified
Authorities later identified a 36-year-old man, Benjamin Charles Parker, as a suspect in the killings.
According to law enforcement officials, Parker was subsequently located and identified during the investigation.
Suspect found dead
Police later found Parker dead inside his vehicle in Enumclaw, Washington, approximately 45 miles (72km) southeast of Seattle.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office said investigators believe he died by suicide.
Inquiry continues
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths and have not released further details regarding a possible motive.
The deaths remain under investigation as a suspected multiple homicide case.
