Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that he is expected to meet US President Donald Trump in New York at the end of September, amid ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at finding a path towards ending the war in Ukraine.
Speaking at a press conference in Canada, Zelenskyy said he anticipated talks with the US administration during his visit to New York later this month.
Meeting planned for late September
"We will have the opportunity to meet, I think, with the American team in New York at the end of the month," Zelenskyy said, adding that the discussions would include a "meeting with President Trump".
The Ukrainian leader indicated that he hopes the talks will help advance discussions on key issues including energy security and grain exports.
Diplomatic efforts continue
The announcement follows recent visits to Moscow and Kyiv by White House envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who have been involved in efforts to seek progress towards a settlement of the conflict.
Zelenskyy said Ukrainian and US negotiators remain in regular contact as diplomatic discussions continue.
No trilateral summit before Russian elections
At the same time, the Ukrainian president ruled out the possibility of a trilateral summit aimed at ending the war before Russia's upcoming parliamentary elections.
He said such a meeting was not expected ahead of the vote, which is scheduled for 20 September.
The planned meeting in New York is expected to take place on the sidelines of international gatherings later this month.
