Newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to Cyprus John Breslow highlighted security, prosperity and developments in the Eastern Mediterranean following his first meeting as an accredited US envoy with President Nikos Christodoulides on Tuesday.
Speaking after the meeting, Breslow described the talks as positive and said Cyprus and the United States continued to enjoy strong bilateral cooperation across a range of areas.
“We talked about the great cooperation that the United States and Cyprus have and all the projects that we're doing,” he said.
Breslow said safety, security and prosperity in relations between the two countries, as well as developments in the Mediterranean, were among the key issues discussed.
He also said he was “extremely happy to be the Ambassador to Cyprus” and looked forward to working with President Christodoulides in the future.
According to sources, the discussions also covered Cyprus' efforts to join the U.S. Visa Waiver Programme, energy cooperation, including the activities of two major U.S. companies operating in Cyprus, and broader cooperation in areas such as trade and security.
The sources said Breslow is also expected to visit the Andreas Papandreou Air Base in Paphos, where expansion works supported by U.S. funding are under way to enable the facility to accommodate heavy-lift transport aircraft and support emergency and humanitarian operations.
