Moscow's mayor accused Ukraine on Sunday of launching an “unprecedented” drone attack against Russia involving more than 1,600 unmanned aerial vehicles, saying the strikes were intended to disrupt the country's parliamentary elections.
According to Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, Russian air defences have shot down more than 1,600 drones since Saturday, including 450 that were heading towards the capital.
“Of these, 450 were heading towards Moscow,” Sobyanin said.
“This unprecedented attack was clearly designed to disrupt the elections. The enemy did not succeed in this,” he wrote on Telegram.
Russians are voting on Sunday in the third and final day of the country's first parliamentary election since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
