Lawyers Nikos Agapinos and Tellos Agapinos have withdrawn from representing detained doctor Ioanna Gaka in the case concerning the death of singer Giorgos Mazonakis, announcing that they will continue to act only for her co-defendant, Ilias Theodoropoulos.
According to Proto Thema, the decision was taken for legal and procedural reasons linked to different defence positions now emerging between the two defendants.
Lawyers cite procedural reasons
In a statement, the two lawyers said they were limiting their representation exclusively to Theodoropoulos.
They described the move as “procedurally necessary” because of factual differences that have emerged in the respective defence positions of the two defendants.
The lawyers added that, if necessary, the reasons behind their decision would be explained in greater detail at a later stage.
Judicial investigation continues
The development comes as the judicial investigation into Mazonakis’ death remains under way, with evidence gathered concerning the circumstances of his death continuing to be assessed.
Gaka remains in pre-trial detention in connection with the case, while Theodoropoulos is also a defendant.
