UN Envoy to Meet with Negotiators

UN has proposed September 27 for new tripartite

The UN Secretary‑General’s Personal Envoy, María Angela Olguín, will continue a series of separate meetings with the negotiators from both sides, this week. On Tuesday she will meet the Greek Cypriot negotiator, Menelaos Menelaou, and on Wednesday the Turkish Cypriot negotiator, Günes Onar.

According to CNA, Olguín will meet on Tuesday afternoon with the recently established Technical Committee for Youth, and sometime during the week will visit cemeteries where work is being carried out under the Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage, on both sides.

Tomorrow at 11.00 am, Olguin is scheduled to meet the Turkish Cypriot Leader, Ersin Tatar, in the north.

Olguin arrived in Cyprus on Thursday evening. On Friday she had a meeting President Nikos Christodoulides, in preparation for the tripartite meeting of the two leaders with the UN Secretary‑General in New York at the end of September, following the conclusion of the work of the UN General Assembly.

Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis, said after the meeting between Christodoulides and Olguín on Friday that the UN has proposed Saturday 27 September for the New York tripartite.

Yesterday morning Olguín visited Buyük Han in north Nicosia, where for decades a group of Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots, Maronites and others meet socially every Saturday morning.
